The Making of a Catholic Parish in Eighteenth-Century Hungary : Competing Interests, Integration, and Interference

In this essay the potentials for political interaction among local communities will be examined through parish organization in century following expulsion of Ottomans from territory Hungary, i.e. period referred to as late confessionalization (1681–1781). Roughly 150 years Ottoman occupation had wreaked havoc on network, which was reorganized over course eighteenth century. Village took initiative establish parishes, but they did so, clashing interests Catholic Church, landlords, and state addressed negotiated. The dynamics process ways were able assert their specific needs should therefore discussed. complexity often divergent aims compelled devise cautious means communicating with competing groups, it also helped further internal integration societies these into church secular structures. However, growing influence made abundantly clear that roles administration parishes would soon undergo slow meaningful change.
